The Gold In The Cracks - Overwhelmed School Leaders Find Strength in Imperfection

We spend so much of our lives trying to hide the places where we are feeling broken.
We smooth the lines, cover the cracks, and hope no one notices the things that feel less than perfect.
Many overwhelmed school leaders feel pressure to get everything right. But the reality is that striving for perfection often adds to the load, rather than easing it.
Often, it’s in those very cracks - the ones we avoid looking at - that we find our strength.
Why overwhelmed school leaders don’t need to be perfect
There is an ancient Japanese art called kintsugi - where broken pottery is repaired with gold. Instead of hiding the damage, the artist highlights it. The repaired pot becomes more beautiful not because its break was hidden, but because it glows.

This seems to mirror our lives.
We try to smooth our cracks, hide where when we feel overwhelmed or just feel human. But the truth is: these are often our richest and most honest moments.
These are the places where something real begins.
The places where we stop pretending.
The places where the light gets in.
Where we show our imperfection.
Kintsugi teaches us that a break isn’t the end of the story.
It’s the beginning of a new one - one marked by courage, resilience, honesty and quiet transformation.
Our cracks aren’t our failures. They’re the places where our sparks turn to gold.
Imperfection isn’t a weakness.
Nothing is made stronger by pretending it wasn't broken.
Gold gathers where truth is allowed space.
THE WHISPER
The gold appears when you stop hiding the cracks.
What parts of you might need a bit more room to be imperfect this week?
If you're a school leader carrying more than you show, coaching can offer space to explore the cracks - and begin to turn them into gold.
I help empower overwhelmed school leaders to ignite clarity,
reclaim their time and renew their energy.
Empower. Ignite. Renew.
